Short Description:

The German Reference Centre for Ethics in the Life Sciences (DRZE) is a project of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and established under the auspices of the Institute for Sciene and Ethics (IWE).

The role of the DRZE is to acquire, document and prepare nationally and internationally relevant information, statements and literature in the area of biomedical ethics, including relevant conclusions from jurisprudence as well as the social and natural sciences.

The reference centre aims to enable and facilitate access to relevant information and to promote German contributions to the international debate.

The services of the DRZE are directed at interdisciplinary research and teaching efforts in the area of the Life Sciences, Medicine, Moral Philosophy and Jurisprudence; they are also intended to assist sound opinion and judgement formation in politics, society and the media. The aim is to improve the conditions for judgement formation, not to replace it. To ensure academic competency in the provision and analysis of information the IWE acts as an advisor to the DRZE. The services of the DRZE are provided with the cooperation of other academic institutions and database providers operating in this area.
