Short Description:

The Sheffield Institute for Biotechnological Law and Ethics (SIBLE)is an inter-Faculty institute of the University of Sheffield created in July 1994 as a response to the legal and ethical problems generated by developments in biotechnology.

SIBLE aims

* to be an inter-disciplinary forum for the discussion of ethical and legal issues raised by developments in biotechnology;

* to encourage and carry out research, particularly inter-disciplinary research, on ethical and legal issues raised by developments in biotechnology;

* to provide a supportive environment for the MA in Biotechnological Law and Ethics (MABLE) (run by the Faculty of Law), for research degrees on ethical and legal issues of biotechnology, and for other courses on law and ethics in relation to biotechnology;

* to offer expert advice on law and ethics to those researching and developing biotechnology; and to counsel governments and other regulatory bodies on the regulation of biotechnology.
